Situated on the south of the island next to the mile long Magazine Beach sits the small hotel - Maca Bana.  The 7 one and two bedroom villas, each unique in personality and décor are positioned on the hillside surrounded by mature landscaped tropical gardens.

All villas have fully equipped open plan kitchens leading to the comfortable sitting rooms with French doors opening onto spacious hardwood decks and covered dining area. The views across the bay to the island’s capital St George are framed by the turquoise sea on one side and the rainforest covered mountains on the other.

Maca Bana now has a newly expanded and refurbished Aquarium restaurant serving  a fusion of Caribbean and international cuisine with a touch of local inspiration and ingredients. As its name suggests the restaurant comes complete with two expansive seawater aquariums bringing the coral reef into the beautiful beachside dining room.  The  bar is furnished with funky rattan furniture and overlooks a new Koi pond with waterfall from the natural cliff face.

Unusually for a villa resort, it is the extras which make the difference. The on site spa provides a wide range of treatments which can be taken in your villa or on your sun-deck. For about US$65 per hour, the chefs from the famous Aquarium Restaurant will teach you how to prepare local dishes in the privacy of your own kitchen (they will also cook for you if you prefer). Pamper your senses with private art tuition, yoga or pilates classes. Explore the island from a new perspective - as an artist, chef or farmer on the organic farming project in the rainforest. Then at the end of your busy day, relax in your personal hot tub and watch the sun go down!

More about Maca Bana - Organic farming and rainforest preservation. The owners Uli Kuhn and Rebecca Thompson embarked on their agricultural project in August 2008 and purchased a 15 acre plot of land situated high in the mountains. Previously used as a larger nutmeg plantation and neglected since Hurricane Ivan, all trees in the area were left stripped of their leaves and badly affected by the salt water the storm had carried to the mountains. The first plants that started to come back were vines which soon took over covering bare tree trunks and the ground, leaving no space to breathe or grow for saplings and strangling the rain forest trees.

Maca Bana's organic farming and rainforest preservation project provides much needed permanent employment for locals from the area in their natural work field and at the same time helps preserve a part of rain forest from building development keeping the big rainforest trees such as nutmeg, breadfruit and cocoa.

Organic farming of crops between the existing trees compliments the growing of short crops including lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, herbs and sweet peppers which thrive in the rainforest climate between sugarcane, banana trees and the rainforest trees. The naturally growing bamboo was harvested for construction and for an interior decorating project.

GREEN LUXURY - Maca Bana is solar-powered by a photovoltic system with 111 solar panels. Environmental measures include solar water heaters, composting, organic nursery and fruit orchard on site, no chemicals in pool, energy saving lights, motion sensors or photo cells for garden lights etc.
